Press Release
06 December 2007
The
Open IPTV Forum announced today that it has accepted new
members from 9 different countries during October and
November this year. Alcatel-Lucent, Amino
Communications, Deutsche Telekom, Huawei, LG Electronics,
Telefonica, TeliaSonera, Tilgin, Verimatrix Inc. and ZTE
Corporation have all joined the effort to develop open,
end-to-end specifications for IPTV based on existing
technologies and open standards.
Combining the expertise of major consumer electronics
manufacturers with that of content providers, service
providers, network operators and infrastructure vendors
means that the forum is well placed to deliver on its
promise – since its creation in March 2007 – pan-industry
end to end specifications for IPTV technologies.
The Open IPTV Forum Steering Group Chairman, Mr. Yun
Chao Hu stated: "The Open IPTV Forum leadership is very
pleased with this increase of new members within a very
short time. This illustrates that the market requires a
forum that drives the next generation of IPTV services
beyond the currently deployed - Live Broadcast TV and
Video on Demand - services. The new members also
expressed their intention to actively contribute towards
the work ongoing within the Open IPTV Forum, which is
very much appreciated”
The positive feeling in the group for this evolution of
the Forum has been remarked by Helmut Schink, Steering
Group Vice-Chair, who notes: “The acceptance of the
results is based on broad support during the development
of the
specifications. Therefore it is key to have the
major players on board while critical decisions are
taken and the Forum is open for further expansion of its
membership.”
